A rotary torque sensor is a device that detects the torsional torque on various rotating mechanical parts. It is also called a dynamic torque sensor. It converts the physical change of torque into an accurate electrical signal. It allows us to accurately measure the force applied to the shaft or rotating parts.
Sino-Inst provides a variety of rotary torque sensors that can be used in the manufacture of viscometers, electric (pneumatic, hydraulic) torque wrenches, etc.
What is the function of a torque sensor?
Torque is the most commonly involved parameter in industrial production power systems. In order to detect the selected torque, a torque sensor can be used.
Torque sensors detect the torsional torque on various rotating or non-rotating mechanical parts. Torque sensors convert the physical changes of torque into precise electrical signals.
The main function of torque sensors is to accurately measure and monitor the size of rotational torque, and they are widely used in machinery, automobiles, aerospace, scientific research, and other fields.

Rotary torque sensor working principle
How does a rotary torque sensor work? Here we give a brief introduction.
Rotary torque sensor uses strain gauge electrical measurement technology. Using the principle of contactless strain measurement technology, the sensor’s signal output and energy input are both contactless transmission.
When measuring positive and negative torque, the sensor does not need to be commutated and zeroed. The sensor signal output adopts a variety of methods (frequency, voltage, current). After adjustment, the sensor output directly enters the PLC acquisition system for speed measurement. ·
Adopts rotary encoder and photoelectric gear disk method. The photoelectric gear disk method is used for high-speed measurement. When measuring at low speed, a rotary encoder can be used, and the angle can also be measured.

Benefits of Rotary Torque Sensor
- Signal and power are transmitted contactlessly, without slip rings or brushes;
- Positive and negative torque can be measured without zero adjustment and commutation;
- Signal is output in frequency, with high signal-to-noise ratio and strong anti-interference ability;
- The response speed is fast, the starting torque can be measured, the torque during the transmission process is large, and it is not limited by speed and speed.
- It can accurately measure real-time torque and power, and the sensor has good linearity, repeatability and high reliability;
- The sensor has a compact structure, small size and light weight.
- It adopts the non-contact measurement principle and will not interfere with the movement of the rotating shaft.
- It can output a variety of signals, such as analog signals, digital signals, frequency signals and pulse signals.
Rotary Torque Sensor with Encoder
The encoder of a torque sensor is a device that can be used to measure rotation angle, speed or position. It is often used in conjunction with a torque sensor to provide more comprehensive motion control information.
The encoder of a torque sensor expands the functionality of the sensor to not only measure torque, but also provide position and speed feedback. Users can choose the appropriate encoder type and integration method based on the specific application.
