Bimetal Thermometer-Axial-Radial-Universally Adjustable|-80℃~+600℃

bimetallic thermometer

Bimetal thermometer is an on-site detection instrument for measuring medium and low temperatures. It can directly measure the temperature of liquid, steam and gas media in the range of -80℃~+600℃ in various production processes.

Our Sino-Inst bimetal thermometers can be axial, radial, or universal. Supports customization of various installation sizes.

A bimetal thermometer is an instrument that uses a bimetal element composed of two metals with different expansion coefficients, also known as a bimetal piece, as a temperature sensing element to measure temperature.

The structure of a bimetal thermometer is composed of a fixed end, a spiral bimetal piece (temperature sensing element), a protective tube, a pointer shaft, a movable nut, a watch case, a dial, a pointer and other parts.

Structure and working principle of bimetal thermometer

The working principle of bimetal thermometer is:
A bimetal thermometer is a combination of two different types of metals, which exist in the form of threaded sheet-like temperature sensing parts.
One end of the bimetal piece is welded and fixed, which is called the fixed end. The other end is called the free end and connects the pointer shaft, movement, hands, etc.
When the surrounding temperature changes, the free end changes and deflects. The movement then drives the pointer to deflect. The measured temperature is indicated on the dial.

The deflection angle Φ of the free end of the spiral bimetal piece after being heated can be expressed by the following formula:
Φ=360/πk(t2-t1)*L/a

In the formula:

Φ—deflection angle;
k—constant;
t2-t1—temperature change value;
L—effective expansion length of the bimetal piece;
a—The thickness of the bimetal piece.

It can be seen from the formula that to ensure that the deflection angle of the free end is large enough, the length of the bimetal piece can be appropriately increased. The method is that during manufacturing, the bimetallic sheet is often made into a spiral shape.

Widely applicable:
Bimetal thermometers can be used in various working conditions, such as high temperature, low temperature, corrosive media, etc., and can meet the temperature measurement needs in different fields.

Mercury free:
It can replace industrial liquid-in-glass thermometers in many situations.

Accurate and reliable:
The bimetal thermometer adopts mechanical transmission and does not require external energy supply. The measurement results are accurate and reliable, and are not easily affected by external interference.

Simple structure:
Bimetal thermometers have a relatively simple structure, low manufacturing costs, easy maintenance, and high cost-effectiveness.

Strong durability:
Bimetal thermometers are usually made of stainless steel or other corrosion-resistant materials, which have strong corrosion resistance and durability.

Wide temperature range:
The measurable temperature range of bimetal thermometer is relatively wide, and it can meet the requirements from low temperature to high temperature.

Bimetal thermometer types

Bimetal thermometer types

According to the structural form, bimetal thermometers can be divided into the following 4 categories:

Bimetal thermometer types

Axial bimetal thermometer

As the name suggests, the axial type means that the long rod part of the temperature sensor of the bimetal thermometer is vertically connected to the indicator plate. In order to ensure that the indicator plate is perpendicular to the horizontal plane, it is convenient to observe the degree. Therefore, in use, we often install it on the side wall of the container to measure the medium temperature at the corresponding height inside the container.

Radial type bimetal thermometer

The radial type bimetal thermometer corresponds to the axial type. Its indicator plate is parallel to the long temperature measuring rod, so it is usually installed on the top of the container. When installing, pay attention to the direction in which the indicator plate is oriented for easy observation. After fixing the orientation, be sure not to twist the direction of the indicator panel alone, otherwise it may cause damage to the instrument or increase the error.

135 degree bimetal thermometer

135 degrees does not refer to the measured temperature, but refers to the angle between the temperature measuring rod and the plane of the indicating plate.

Its application occasions are mainly divided into two types. One is mainly installed horizontally or vertically, but the indicator plate is tilted to facilitate reading the degree.

Another type suitable for temperature measurement of small-sized containers or pipes. The indicating plate remains horizontal or vertical, but the temperature measuring rod is inserted obliquely into the container to be measured. It is suitable for situations where the container has an inclination or the size of the container cannot meet the insertion depth of the temperature probe.

Universal bimetal thermometer

The temperature measuring rod and the indicator plate of the universal bimetal thermometer are not rigidly connected, but are connected through a universal joint. In order to ensure that the indicator plate does not roll and affect the degree, only one degree of freedom of adjustment is opened. The angle between the temperature measuring rod and the indicating plate can be freely adjusted from 0° to 180°.

Special attention needs to be paid because the temperature changes of the bimetal thermometer are transmitted to the indicating plate through mechanical movement. Therefore, the angle of the indicator plate should not be adjusted after it is installed and fixed to avoid errors or unusability. The universal bimetal thermometer can be used in installation locations where the above three models are not suitable.
