Featured 5 Guided Wave Radar Level Transmitter Types

Guided Wave Radar Level Transmitters

Understanding the different Guided Wave Radar Level Transmitter Types can help you choose a more suitable model.

Since the electromagnetic waves emitted by guided wave radar level transmitters are mostly pulse waves, we can classify guided wave radar level transmitters according to the type of probe. According to the structure of the probe, guided wave radar level transmitters can be divided into five types.

For technical parameters and details of our Sino-Inst guided wave radar level transmitters, please refer to our product page.

1. Single rod type

The first is the single-rod type. The single-rod probe is a metal rod with a simple structure and is not easy to hang materials and scale.

It is suitable for liquid level measurement with high dielectric constant (relative dielectric constant 10~100) and medium viscosity (viscosity coefficient as low as 1500cP). Such as general aqueous solutions, crude oil, hydrocarbons and other liquids. It can also be used for level measurement of powdery solids.

2. Cable probe

The second type is a cable-type probe. The probe is a flexible metal cable that can be bent.

The applicable scenarios are the same as the single-rod probe, but the magnetic wave propagation loss is slightly higher. In some cases where the measurement range is large, the single-rod probe can be replaced by a cable probe to facilitate transportation, installation and maintenance.

3. Double rod type

The third type is the double-rod probe, which consists of two parallel metal rods. The magnetic wave propagation loss of the double-rod probe is small, and it can still have a strong echo signal when measuring low dielectric constant media such as oil.

However, the double-rod probe is prone to material accumulation and scaling, causing false echoes and affecting the reliability of the measurement results. Therefore it is not suitable for measuring high viscosity liquids.

4. Two-cable type

The fourth type is the dual-cable type. The dual-cable probe consists of two parallel flexible metal cables.

The electromagnetic wave propagation loss of the double-cable probe is smaller and the echo signal quality is better. But the dual cable probe is not suitable for measuring high viscosity liquids.

5. Coaxial type

The last one is the coaxial type. The coaxial probe consists of a metal round tube and a metal thin rod. Its structure is similar to a coaxial cable, with electromagnetic waves propagating in the space between a metal round tube and a thin metal rod.

Compared with other types of probes, the energy loss is minimal and the echo signal quality is good. It can measure low dielectric constant liquids (relative dielectric constant 14~4.0) that cannot be measured by single-rod probes.

In addition, the coaxial guided wave radar level transmitter also has the characteristics of strong anti-interference ability and high reliability, and has been widely used.

However, due to the special structure of the coaxial probe, installation and maintenance are complicated, and it is not suitable for occasions with large measuring ranges. Because the space between them is limited, material accumulation and contamination are easy to occur, which affects the reliability of the measurement results, so it is not suitable for liquid level measurement of high-viscosity media.

More Featured Level Measurement

The above five categories are the types of guided wave radar level transmitters classified according to the probe. Each has its advantages and limitations. So how to choose the one that is most suitable for you still depends on the working conditions of the medium being measured.

We at Sino-Inst manufacture and supply various types of guided wave radar level transmitters. Widely exported to various countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Indonesia, etc. It is used in various industries, such as measuring the liquid level in various liquid phase slurry material storage tanks, measuring the liquid level of juice, berries, sauces and other liquid materials to ensure the accurate input and supply of raw materials during the production process.
