Portable Density Meter Principle

A tuning fork density meter uses an acoustic frequency signal source to excite a metal fork, causing it to vibrate freely at its center frequency. This frequency has a direct correlation with the density of the liquid in contact, thus allowing the measurement of the liquid’s density through frequency analysis. Temperature compensation further eliminates temperature drift in the system.

The concentration can be calculated at 20°C using the formula relating the liquid’s density and concentration. Portable tuning fork density meters integrate density, concentration, and Baumé measurement, and offer a variety of liquid selection options.

FAQ

Baumé meters and density meters are not exactly the same, but they are related.

Both Baumé meters and density meters involve density measurement, but their focus and applications differ. Baumé meters are more focused on measuring the concentration of solutions (measured in Baumé degrees), while density meters are more widely used to measure the density of various substances.

density meter: A density meter is an instrument used to measure the density of an object. It can calculate density using different principles, such as measuring the ratio of an object’s mass to its volume, or utilizing the principle of buoyancy in fluids. Applications include chemistry, physics, and materials science.

Baumé Meter: A Baumé meter is an instrument used to measure the concentration of solutes or sugar content in solutions. It utilizes the relationship between the refractive index of a solution and the concentration or sugar content of the solute. Baumé meters are commonly used in the food, beverage, and agricultural industries to determine the quality and composition of products.

The differences between a hydrometer and a density meter are as follows:

Density is the mass of a substance per unit volume. Specific gravity is the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of pure water at 4°C.

Measurement principle: A hydrometer calculates density by measuring the change in buoyancy of an object in different media, while a density meter directly measures the mass and volume of the object to obtain the density value.

Measurement content: A hydrometer measures specific gravity (weight/volume), while a density meter measures density (mass/volume).

Operation method: A hydrometer requires immersing the object in a specific liquid and measuring the immersion depth, while a density meter directly measures the mass and volume of the object.
