The hydrofluoric acid concentration meter is used to measure the concentration of hydrofluoric acid in tanks and pipelines. It is widely applicable to various manufacturing processes that use hydrofluoric acid. For example, high-precision detection of hydrofluoric acid concentration is crucial in semiconductor manufacturing processes.
Properties and Uses of Hydrofluoric Acid
Although hydrofluoric acid is classified as a “weak acid,” its corrosiveness and toxicity are extremely strong, capable of severely corroding metals, glass, and silicon-containing substances.
Hydrofluoric acid is an aqueous solution of hydrogen fluoride gas, a colorless, fuming, corrosive liquid with a pungent odor. It is a weak acid but extremely corrosive, strongly attacking metals, glass, and silicon-containing objects. Inhalation of its vapors or contact with the skin can cause burns that are difficult to heal.
Uses of Hydrofluoric Acid
- Due to its ability to dissolve oxides, hydrofluoric acid plays an important role in the purification of aluminum and uranium.
- Hydrofluoric acid is also used to etch glass, allowing for the engraving of patterns, markings, and text;
- The semiconductor industry uses it to remove oxides from the surface of silicon. In refineries, it is used as a catalyst in the alkylation reaction of isobutane and n-butene, and it is also used in the “pickling” process to remove oxygen-containing impurities from the surface of stainless steel.
